Any students who will need to have medication at Grady should call the school and set an appointment with Ms. Rehmann, our school nurse. Ms. Rehmann will get all the necessary paperwork ready for you. Once all the paperwork is complete, call Ms. Rehmann again to schedule an appointment to drop off the medicine.

Dear Hillsborough County Public Schools Families,

For the 2020-21 school year, we are excited to share that we will be moving to a new learning management platform called Canvas—a new hub of learning for our school district for all PreK-12th grade students, parents and educators. Over the next few weeks, we will be providing you with training material and videos so that you are prepared for the school year.

Click here to view an important Canvas introductory video from Superintendent Addison G. Davis to get you started.

Canvas provides live (in-class instruction for teachers to use, once students are back inside classrooms) and virtual instruction options. This platform is user-friendly regardless of your learning style.

We want to make sure the transition to Canvas is as smooth as possible; that is why we created a Hillsborough Canvas Family Guide where tips, resources and training will be updated periodically for our entire Hillsborough Schools Family to view.  To access this guide, visit the Families section of hillsboroughschools.org under Helpful Links, and click the Canvas Family Guide.

Although student courses are not available yet, we encourage you to become familiar with this new platform. Once you have logged into Canvas you can access this guide any time by clicking the help icon.

NOTE:  If you have already created a district MySPOT account to access Edsby or Online Report Cards, you do not have to create an account.  The current email address and password you use to login will automatically work for Canvas.

Fast Facts about Canvas:

  • 95% of higher education institutions use Canvas—which helps prepare our students for life after high school.
  • Through Canvas, parents can be observers, monitor student progress, see feedback from teachers, and see student assignments.
  • Canvas also offers a free APP where grades and course content can be viewed. Students can submit assignments and keep track of course work with a to-do list and a calendar. Messages can be sent and received; discussions can be posted, and students and parents can receive push notifications for new grades and course updates—a great way to monitor student progress on the go.
  • Canvas provides feedback to students on their work; teachers can leave comments directly on assignment pages. Teachers can also record a video to give details on assignments and encourage students, which builds a better connection between teacher and student during virtual learning.

Teachers and staff are currently working on professional development training— include Canvas training, to enrich student instruction in a virtual environment.

Thank you for your patience as we work together to create the tools needed for teachers and students to succeed. We look forward to providing you with this new hub of learning.

Respectfully,

Hillsborough County Public Schools

Dear Tiger Families,

I just wanted to give everyone a quick update on our return status to this point. Our student declaration of intent for Grady is as follows:

Response rate: 81%

Face to Face: 50%
eLearning: 28%
Virtual: 3%
No response: 19%

There is still time to submit your student declaration of intent. The intent can be found at https://intent2020.hcps.net/. If your child does not have a student number, please call the school and we will help you with your intent.

Due to the change in the start date for the 2020-2021 school year, Open House will be moved to a later date and held virtually. Student placements will also be sent out closer to the start of school. We will communicate the new Open House and student placement dates once they are established.

Thank you and stay safe!

Mike Campbell
Principal

First Day of School Pushed Back to August 24th

The School Board voted to approve the Superintendent’s recommendation that the first day of school for students be moved from August 10th until August 24th.

Teachers and staff will return to schools as planned on July 31st.

The School Board also approved a new student calendar to make up for missed classroom time due to pushing the school start day to August 24. You can find that revised calendar here.

The School Board also voted on a new bell schedule to ensure students have the required amount of time in their courses.

We have added dates to our school supply drive. Supplies can now be donated  on July 30th, August 6th, & August 13th from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm at Grady Elementary.
To limit contact and keep our families safe, there will be a box on the sidewalk where you can drop any donations. Drive through the car loop on Morrison Ave and the box will be right under the overhang at our school entrance.

Our goal is to create 150 kits to provide to our students in need so that they can successfully complete all of their assignments whether in person or via eLearning. We also want additional cleaning supplies to ensure that we can keep our school as clean and safe as possible.

Due to Covid-19, our needs have significantly increased this year because there are more families having a hard time buying school supplies, larger quantities of items are needed to avoid students sharing supplies, more cleaning items are requested to supplement what the district is providing, and less funds are available from School Kit sales to purchase missing items.

Thank you for supporting our school and students! We need your help more than ever during these unprecedented times.
