PTA Updates

Grady’s 5th Annual Tiger Trek Walk-a-thon is coming up soon!  Tiger Trek gives students the opportunity to exercise and raise money for their school!  100% of the proceeds will go directly to Grady Elementary to benefit your children and our school.  The money raised will be used for art enrichment, teacher curriculum grants, and student enrichment programs.

Please ask your family members, friends and neighbors to support Grady by making donations towards your children’s participation in Tiger Trek.  To donate online, please click here: DONATE.  Our online donation site is CISCO-Certified Secure and accepts all credit cards for your tax deductible gift.   Or, Tiger Trek participants can collect cash or check made out to Grady PTA, place it in the envelope previously sent home from school.

You can share the Grady donation page on social media by putting the link, https://gradytigers.org/donate, in a Facebook or Twitter post, or by pressing the “share” button at the top of the Grady Tiger Trek Donation Page.  If you share via social media, all people who donate will be able to select that the donation be designated on behalf of your child.  We will keep track of all online and paper results.

The deadline to turn in a minimum of $35 to qualify for a t-shirt for Tiger Trek is Friday, January 13.   Please be sure to mark your child’s t-shirt size (Youth or Adult) and S, M or L on the envelope.

Next, Grady Elementary is hosting a Student Literacy & Media (“SLAM”) Showcase on February 9 in the Media Center.  In the SLAM Showcase, Grady students (K-5) are invited to make two-dimensional art projects or short video book trailers about books that have won either the Sunshine State Young Readers Award or The Florida Reading Association Children’s Book Award (these books have often served as Battle Books, so your children have probably read some of them).  There will be awards given in the K-2 category and 3-5 category and winners will proceed to a county level contest.  For more information about the SLAM Showcase as well as the official rules, please click here:  Grady SLAM Showcase or contact Media Specialist, Mr. Tsourakis at [email protected].  This is going to be a fun event that will call on our students to get creative.

The deadline for parents of fifth graders to purchase a yearbook dedication or advertisement is January 31, 2017.  To purchase a yearbook ad, please contact Yearbook Coordinator Norma Maiz at [email protected].

Grady Guidance Counselor, Ms. Barra, encourages us to read the HCPS Home & School Connection, January 2017 Home & School Connection.  This month’s issue discusses motivation, family time and speaking up to bullying.
