Tiger Talk Update 12.06.19

December 6, 2019

Thank you to all of our volunteers and families that braved a chilly morning to Walk to School on Wednesday! We had 150 walkers and our winning class this month is Ms. Webber's! We are tallying the walkers each month to calculate our grand prize winner and right now, Ms. Trupp's class is in the lead. 
 
We need your help to clean up our beautiful school on Saturday, December 7th from 9:00 - 11:00 am. Bring the whole family (adults and kids) to help pull weeds, trim palm fronds, rake leaves, etc... Just show up in yard work clothes at the front of Grady Elementary at 9:00 am. Grady PTA will provide bottled water. Please contact Brad Smith at [email protected] with any questions. 
  
Our amazing crossing guard, Janet Anderson, has been nominated for America's Favorite Crossing Guard. To vote for Janet, please click on Crossing Guard. You can vote once a day through December 12th. 
 
As a reminder, today is the last day of the Fall session of After School Enrichment Clubs. Please note that our Tuesday Clubs will meet on Tuesday, December 10th for their Hurricane Dorian Make Up Day.

Fall Family Clean up 12/7 
We need your help to clean up our beautiful school, Grady Elementary. Bring the whole family (adults and kids) to Grady on Saturday, December 7th from 9:00 - 11:00 am to help our school with cosmetic maintenance. We will be pulling weeds, trimming palm fronds, raking leaves, etc... Just show up in yard work clothes at the front of Grady Elementary at 9:00 am. STEM Fair Project Viewing 12/9
 
All parents are invited to stop by Grady Elementary's cafeteria on December 9th to view the 2019 STEM Fair projects between 5:30 and 6:30 pm. The STEM Fair winners will be announced at 5:40 pm. 
 

Grady Winter Concerts & Art Exhibit

Our Winter Concerts are quickly approaching! For full details, please click on Winter Concerts. Volunteers are needed to help set up and clean up for the concert. If you are interested in volunteering, please click Winter Concert Volunteers. We appreciate any volunteers, even if you have to arrive late or leave early. 1st & 2nd Grade: Wednesday, December 11th

Grady's Food Drive benefiting End 68 Hours of Hunger

Grady Elementary is running a food drive to benefit End 68 Hours of Hunger of Hillsborough County. Donations will be collected from December 2nd to December 17th. Please send donations in with your child and they will place them in the donation box in their classroom or bring donations to the Winter Concert and Art Exhibit.

Doodad Sculpture Contest
 
This year, Grady will be participating in a new experience: The Doodad Sculpture Contest! Doodads is an art sculpture competition that requires students to use recycled or upcycled materials to create a 3D art sculpture. Yearbooks
Yearbook sales are open online! Please visit www.strawbridge.net to purchase and enter online code yb112045. Yearbooks are all hardcover this year and cost $25 if purchased before March 1, 2020.  On March 1st, prices will rise to $30. 
We will be sending paper forms home if you prefer to pay via cash or check. Please note that cash and checks will only be accepted in January and February. 
If you have pictures from field trips, Skate Night, Art Night, Great American Teach In, Math Bowl or the Winter Concerts that you would like included in the yearbook and the website, please email them to [email protected].
 

Box Tops

 
Keep collecting Box Tops! For every 5 Box Tops submitted, students will obtain 1 entry into the monthly drawing. Turn in your Box Tops for a chance to win a giant stocking full of toys! For more information, please click Grady Box Tops. 
You can submit Box Tops 3 ways: 
  1. Through the Box Top$ for Education app. Send a screenshot of your current uploaded box top amounts in your app to [email protected] to be eligible for prizes. 
  2. Clip Box Tops and turn in on the form sent home or in a Ziploc Bag. Make sure to include your child's name and teacher on the form/ziploc bag. Please insure that you are sending unexpired Box Tops and not the "Skip the Clip" logos. Items with the "Skip the Clip" logo should be submitted through the Box Top$ for Education App. 
  3. Send unscanned receipts to your teacher with your child's name written on the back. 
 
PTA Meetings
The next PTA meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 10th from 8:00 - 9:00 am in the Teachers' Lounge. The meeting is open to anyone interested in learning more about the PTA and upcoming events. If you cannot attend and would like to review the prior meeting minutes, please visit PTA Board Meetings. We have also listed some of the programs that 2019-2020 PTA Fundraisers will help fund. 
 
 
PTA Membership
Who can join? ANYONE. You can add your neighbor, parents, grandparents, anyone in the community. 
How much does it cost? $6 for one person, $10 for two.

High membership participation provides PTA with strength in numbers when advocating for our students and also allows us to participate in PTA programs such as Reflections Art. Our PTA also receives awards for membership and programs PTA offers.

Got used markers? ColorCycle them at Grady

What is Crayola ColorCycle? Crayola’s latest sustainability initiative designed to repurpose markers, highlighters and dry erase markers. All marker brands are accepted. 

How do I help? Collect markers and drop them off in the front office or your student can give them to our art teacher, Debonique Grigsby.
